Attach the Sound calibration microphone to the supplied microphone stand or own tripod and install it at the main listening position.
Nov 13, 2017 This is a video on calibrating your receiver using Audyssey multEQ XT32 room correction on the Marantz SR 7010 9.2 channel av Dolby Atmos DTS.
When installing the Sound calibration microphone, point the tip of the microphone toward the ceiling and adjust the height to match the height of the ears of a listener in a seated position.
If using a subwoofer capable of the following adjustments, set up the subwoofer as shown below.
Set the direct mode to “On” and disable the volume adjustment and crossover frequency setting.
Make the following settings:
Crossover frequency : Maximum/Highest Frequency
Standby mode : Off
Connect the Sound calibration microphone to the SETUP MIC jack of this unit.
Audyssey® Setup can also make the following settings.
The signals output from the SURROUND BACK speaker terminals can be switched in accordance with your speaker environment. (Amp Assignlink)
If channels that are not to be used are set in advance, measurement for the set channels is skipped, and measuring time can be reduced. You can also change the number of surround back speakers and subwoofer.
Follow the instructions on the screen display and press “Next” to proceed further.
When the following screen is displayed, select “Begin Test” and then press ENTER.
Go to Error messageslink. Check any related items, and perform the necessary procedures.
When the detected speaker is displayed, select “Next” and then press ENTER.
Move the Sound calibration microphone to position 2, select “Continue”, then press ENTER.
Measurements can be made in up to eight positions.
To skip measuring the second and subsequent listening position, press to select “Complete” and press ENTER to proceed to step 11.
Press to select “Yes”, then press ENTER.
Start the analysis and storage of the measurement results.
Analysis takes several minutes to complete.
The more speakers and measurement positions that there are, the more time it takes to perform the analysis.
The more speakers and measurement positions that there are, the more time it takes to perform the analysis.
When the measurement results are being saved, make sure the power is not turned off.
Perform the settings for Audyssey Dynamic EQ® and Audyssey Dynamic Volume®.
The following screen is displayed during the analysis. Configure the settings as preferred.
Dynamic EQ corrects the frequency response in consideration of the audio characteristics of the room and human hearing ability so that sound can be heard even at low volume.
This is recommended when using the unit with the volume turned down, e.g. when enjoying a movie or TV program in the middle of the night.
This is recommended when using the unit with the volume turned down, e.g. when enjoying a movie or TV program in the middle of the night.
Dynamic Volume adjusts the output volume to the optimal level while constantly monitoring the level of the audio input to the unit.
Optimal volume control is performed automatically without any loss in the dynamism and clarity of the sound when, for example, the volume suddenly increases for commercials shown during television programs.

When the analysis and storage ends, unplug the Sound calibration microphone from the SETUP MIC jack on the main unit and then press “Next”.
Select “Details” and press ENTER to verify the measurement results.
Subwoofers may measure a greater reported distance than the actual distance due to added electrical delay common in subwoofers.
Do not change the speaker connection or subwoofer volume after Audyssey® Setup. If these are changed, run Audyssey® Setup again in order to configure the optimum equalizer settings.

This $325 installer's kit is terrific as is: The microphone preamp comespre-calibrated and level matched to the proprietary Audyssey-developed test tones within the MultEQ Proroutine. A Rane inline power supply with a 6'connector going to the pre-amp and a 6'powercord are included and stowed in the same small center partition in the Installer's case.
Audyssey Installer s Kit, $325. HP 8301 host computer.
The serial numbered microphone is calibrated to an $8000 Bruel&Kjaer 4136(frequency response of 4Hz to 70kHz -3dB) with the calibration curve being stored on Audyssey'sin house documentation computer for reference. The microphone comes in a foam padded plastic case alongwith the microphone holder and threaded attachment for screwing the mic holder to the stand.
The tri-leg boom microphone stand is a smooth operating, easy-to-adjust Samsonmodel. The microphone holder is a shove-from-the-back friction fit affair. The pliable holder expandswhile gripping the microphone securely making it less prone to airborne vibration. It was a pleasure touse for quick, precise positioning.
Four 18'microphone cables fit into the last of the four compartments in thenylon Audyssey installer's kit. The cables are very pliable professional models with goodquality, strain-relieved XLR male and female connectors on either end.
After setting up and running the MultEQ Pro routine a couple of times I purchased anadditional 10'USB extension cord to go with the 10'cord included in the kit. This made itwas easier to get my HP 8301 laptop computer further away from the Sound Equalizer. I had mounted theSound Equalizer in the equipment rack underneath our (front-of-room) video display. Adding the10'extension allowed me to place the laptop back on our dining room table.
Our open floorplan living room, dining room and rear-of-living room stairwellmeasure 21'wide by 24'long with our ceiling gently sloping up from the front door/leftsurround speaker wall to the corner mounted L/C/R video display/picture window wall. Ceiling heightaverages 8'in height. This gives a rough cubic volume of over 4000 cubic feet.
My main audio goal with this, my personal home install, was to be able toincorporate the highest performance components available at superb value price points. The target was$10,000 (at full list prices) for all audio components including the $2500 Audyssey Sound Equalizer. Ina future article I plan to evaluate the sound performance of the receiver-based Audyssey MultEQ XTversus the stand-alone Sound Equalizer with MultEQ Pro and the Outlaw Audio 7075 amplifier. The tablebelow breaks down the full list price costs of the review system with and without the Audyssey SoundController ($2500 SRP) + Outlaw Audio 7075 ($699 SRP).

For consistency's sake the Sound Equalizer's eight channels wereconfigured in the same standard rotation format as is built into most receivers and pro-pros. Startingwith the Denon AVR-3806's eight external outputs going to the Audyssey Sound Equalizer'seight analog inputs the channel assignments are:
Denon left front ext out>Audyssey analog input #1
- Denon center ext out>Audyssey analog input #2
- Denon right front ext out>Audyssey analog input #3
- Denon right surround ext out>Audyssey analog input #4

Assignments from the Audyssey to the Outlaw Audio 7075 amplifier or direct to thefront and rear subwoofers were:

This type of interconnect info looks fairly simple here. But it's handy infoto have stored on the Audyssey site should a future problem arise with one of your installations.
Installing the MultEQ Pro software
Setting up the Mic, Stand, Mic-Preand XLRs; tieing the Sound Equalizer to a PC via USB
The Installer kit comes with a well-written, easy to understand spiral-boundInstallation Manual. And because the actual calibration routine is so easy I'll just touch on afew of the highlights here. Mike Thuresson, Audyssey Installer Program Manager has told me that by thetime this article is in print many of the suggestions which I'll highlight here may have alreadymade it into the first revision of the Manual.
Installing the MultEQ Pro application on your computer is a simple as anyprofessionally produced CD-based application. Once you insert the disc you're greeted with aMultEQ Pro Setup Wizard . And after you're done with the Setup a MultEQ Pro launch icon willappear in the Start Menu. I dragged my MultEQ Pro icon to the right side of my desktop forconvenience.
The MultEQ Pro CD that comes in your Installer's Kit isserial-number-matched to the microphone. The Audyssey microphone is calibrated to an $8000 Bruel&Kjaer 4136 reference. Each individual microphone's calibration-to-the-4136 data package is storedon the like serial numbered MultEQ Pro installation disc that comes as part of the kit. In myexperience with measurement microphones the sample-to-sample variation between installer'smicrophones may be almost nil. But keeping matched serial number CDs and microphones togetherinsures the absolute closest adherence to the B&K standard.
